About Yan Chen, MD, PhD
Dr. Chen was born and raised in Beijing, the capital of People’s Republic of China where he obtained his medical degree from Beijing Medical University. After practicing orthopedic surgery for three years in Beijing, he moved to the United States in 1991 to complete his doctorate degree in physiology at Louisiana State University. He continued with his basic science research for two more years at University of Virginia in Charlottesville for IBD research.
Then, he returned to clinical medicine and finished internal medicine residency program at Yale-affiliated Norwalk Hospital in Connecticut in 2001, followed by gastroenterology training at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. He then joined the Consultants in Gastroenterology in Kansas City, Missouri in July 2004. Dr. Chen is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Chen has great interests in various gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
His personal goal is to use the most up-to-date medical knowledge and the best available technology to solve clinical problems and serve patients in a most effective and efficient way. Dr. Chen loves to spend time with his wife and son. He also enjoys reading medical literatures, playing tennis, and playing classical guitar in his spare time.
