About Vijay Poreddy, M.D.
Dr. Vijay Poreddy is a board certified gastroenterologist who has been practicing gastroenterology since August 2004. He has served as Chief of Staff for the Section of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center. He specializes in the treatment of various digestive disorders, including heartburn, acid reflux, ulcers, colitis, colon cancer screening, and irritable bowel syndrome. He has advanced training in the treatment of liver diseases, such as hepatitis C, hepatitis B, and cirrhosis.
Dr. Poreddy was born in India and finished his bachelor in medicine and surgery at Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad. He immigrated to the United States in 1995 and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Jewish Medical Center in New York City.
Dr. Poreddy then moved to California to pursue a fellowship in gastroenterology and liver diseases at the University of Southern California, gaining vast experience in the treatment of ulcer diseases, colon polyps, gastrointestinal bleeding, and management of hepatitis B, hepatitis C, cirrhosis, and liver transplant patients.
In August 2004, Dr. Poreddy joined Austin Medical Educational Program (now called University Medical Center at Brackenridge) as a faculty member. While there, he was involved in teaching internal medicine and family practice residents basic concepts about gastroenterology and liver diseases. He has also served as clinical assistant professor of internal medicine, Digestive & Liver Diseases Division, at University of Texas Southwestern.
From July 2006 – June 2007, Dr. Poreddy pursued an advanced interventional fellowship at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, which involved treatment of bile duct stones, strictures, and pancreatic disorders.
Upon returning to Austin in August 2007, Dr. Poreddy established a private practice called North Austin Gastroenterology and then joined Austin Gastroenterology in 2010.
Dr. Poreddy is married to Surekha, a computer programmer. They have two children, Nithin and Neha. When not working, he enjoys traveling, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
