About Prabhakar Swaroop, M.D.

Why Gastroenterology?

A genuine curiosity about the intricate connections between dietary choices, gut health, and the development of chronic diseases shaped my journey into gastroenterology. Guided by my experiences at Columbia during my residency and later at Harvard during my GI fellowship, I diligently cultivated my skills while delving deep into this complex field. The allure of deciphering the interactions of gut microbes, untangling the nuances of inflammatory bowel diseases, and comprehending the profound impact of dietary habits on overall health captured my attention. What truly solidified my career choice was the prospect of educating patients about the pivotal role of lifestyle in their well-being and directly intervening through endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat critical illnesses. Gastroenterology has provided me with a meaningful platform where scientific exploration harmonizes with the tangible impact on patients, reflecting my unwavering dedication to this field.

What Can Patients Expect?

I emphasize a patient-centered approach with empathy and attentive listening in my practice. I genuinely value the importance of comprehending each patient’s experiences and concerns, enabling me to establish a comprehensive diagnosis that we can collaboratively explore. I have been a patient before and understand how it feels to be heard by your Healthcare Provider. Together, we formulate a treatment strategy incorporating your insights, ensuring that your preferences and comfort are integral. I am dedicated to openly discussing each approach’s potential risks and benefits and exploring alternative options. My ultimate objective is to equip you with the knowledge and confidence necessary to make informed decisions regarding your health. You can rest assured that your well-being and opinions are central to our journey of healthcare partnership.
