About Michael Nunez, M.D.
Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
I’ve always been interested in science and how technology can help people in their everyday lives. Gastroenterology provides a perfect blend of direct patient care and the use of technology to diagnose and treat complex disorders found in patients with GI conditions.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
Most of what I do as a gastroenterologist on a daily basis involves colon cancer prevention and the treatment of reflux complications and peptic ulcer disease. I also have special training and interest in advanced therapeutic endoscopy techniques, such as ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound, radio frequency ablation and mucosectomy.

Undergrad: Louisiana State University, Medical School: Duke University, Residency and Fellowship: University of Texas Southwestern.
What certifications do you hold?
I am board certified in Gastroenterology.
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
Off road cycling, tennis, cooking and listening to classic jazz.
Do you have any special honors or recognitions in your medical career that you would like to share?
I was a contributing author to Sleisenger and Fordtran’s Textbook of Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease in years past. I have been selected as one of D Magazine’s Best Doctors each year since at least 2000.
