About Michael Morelli, M.D.

Cincinnati, Ohio native, Michael S. Morelli, MD, CPE, FACG is the co-founder and prior Medical Director of the St. Francis Colorectal Cancer Center of Excellence and a former President of Indianapolis Gastroenterology & Hepatology (IGH). Since joining IGH in 2004, Dr. Morelli enjoys an active clinical practice with special interests in pancreato–biliary disorders, Clostridium difficile diarrhea, and colorectal cancers.

A University of Notre Dame graduate, Dr. Morelli earned his Doctor of Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. From there, he completed his Internal Medicine residency and a one-year Chief Residency at Wake Forest University School of Medicine/North Carolina Baptist Hospital. He then completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Morelli has served as both a member and a chairperson of the American College of Gastroenterology’s (ACG) Practice Management Committee and has twice co-chaired the Practice Management Course at the ACG’s annual meeting. He served on the GIQuIC (GI Quality Improvement Consortium) Endoscopy Unit Quality Metrics Task Force which took part in the formation of measurable quality standards for ambulatory endoscopy centers. Later, he was invited to become a board member of GIQuIC. Additionally, Dr. Morelli has served on the Yale-CORE Technical Expert Panel which aided the development of outcome measures for ambulatory endoscopy procedures.

For his work in clinical practice, research, service to the ACG and GIQuIC, in 2012 Dr. Morelli was named Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. Indianapolis Monthly Magazine and Castle Connolly have recognized Dr. Morelli on their annual lists of the area’s Top Doctors.

Dr. Morelli is an avid reader who enjoys sports, exercise, and travel. He is an active parishioner at St. Jude Parish in Indianapolis and has served on the board of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) in Indianapolis. Dr. Morelli enjoys coaching his children in sports and spending time with them and his wife. He is an avid fan of Notre Dame Football and Cincinnati Reds baseball.
