Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
We are driven by certain passions in life. My passion is science. This passion drove me to an interest in the human body and then into the field of medicine. I was drawn to medicine by the challenges of treating a variety of complex illnesses. Of all the fields in medicine, Gastroenterology appealed to me because of the numerous challenging diagnosis and wide array of therapeutic options. There are constant cutting edge innovations in endoscopic therapies. This is a field which provides ample opportunity for cancer screening and prevention which is a cause close to my heart.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
Colon cancer screening and prevention, treatment of Barrett’s esophagus, peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopic ultrasound for diagnosis and staging of various GI cancers, ERCP for bile duct stones and biliary strictures, acute and chronic pancreatitis
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
Tennis, Swimming, Cooking, listening to music, traveling.
Do you have any special honors or recognitions in your medical career that you would like to share?
ACG AstraZeneca Fellow award at ACG 2013 conference, ACG fellowship2leadership grant, Excellence in Teaching award, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Graduated from medical school ranked 6th in the graduating class of 100 students with honors in anatomy and pharmacology.

Dr. Kumaravel is always so patient and knowledgeable. She diagnosed me correctly after 10+ years of misdiagnoses by multiple other doctors who weren’t interested in reducing my pain and discomfort. I won’t go to another GI doctor after this amazing experience and care.

Love Dr Kumaravel. Being a woman, she has that extra special touch and care for her elderly patients. I've always had the best care from TDDC starting back in the 1990s with Dr Mark David Dalton then his replacement Dr Nanji now his replacement Dr Arthi Kumaravel.
I went into see Dr Kumaravel for a 6 month check up and she and her staff are as always very pleasant and professional. She doesn't get in a hurry to get you in and out of her office. If you have or need of any questions she will be happy to answer them for you.
