About Balaji K. Ayyar, M.D.

Dr. Balaji Ayyar grew up in the Dallas area and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio. During his time at Case Western, he received a grant from the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation for his research. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and completed his residency training as well as his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. After graduating, he joined Faculty at UT Southwestern for a few years before moving to San Antonio with his family.

While Dr. Ayyar sees a variety of gastroenterology and hepatology conditions, he has a particular interest and passion for esophageal diseases, including GERD/acid reflux, Barrett’s esophagus, swallowing issues, and eosinophilic esophagitis and their management.

Dr. Ayyar is excited to be back in San Antonio after spending many years in Dallas and give back to the community where he lived during medical school. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters and is an avid sports fan.
