Clostridioides Difficile (C-Diff)
Commonly referred to as C.Diff, this disease is caused by the bacteria Clostridiodes Difficile. This bacterium frequently is found in small numbers of healthy colons. However, when normal healthy bacteria in the colon is disrupted, often from antibiotics, it allows the C. difficile to grow and produce a toxin that damages the colon causing diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. It can cause severe damage to the colon and even be fatal. It can also be transmitted from person-to-person and is frequently found in hospitals.
