About David R. Silvers, M.D.
Dr. Silvers is a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Tulane University. He received his medical degree from Tulane Medical School in 1979. He has a Master of Science degree from the University of New Orleans in Biology and Physiology. He completed his Internal Medicine residency and his fellowship in Gastroenterology from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1984. He then became chief of gastroenterology for the Mahorner Clinic until it closed in 1992 and has since been in private practice.
He has served as a member or chairman of numerous hospital committees including endoscopy, nutrition, peer review, quality process, medical records, bylaws and utilization management. Dr. Silver’s has served as Chief of Staff of St. Jude Medical Center and was also a member of the Board of Governors. He served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Lakeside hospital and was also Vice Chief of Staff. He has been on the active staff of East Jefferson General Hospital since 1990 and has served as Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology. He was also a past member of the Board of Directors at East Jefferson General Hospital and is a credentialed physician with the M.D. Anderson Hospital Physician Network. Dr. Silvers was founder and director of Drug Research Services until it closed and conducted over 250 clinical trials. Dr. Silvers has authored numerous articles and continues to lecture on gastrointestinal disorders to physicians and patients. He serves as a consultant to numerous drug companies, including Abbott, Takeda, Merck, and Janssen.
His hobbies include fishing, snow skiing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, yoga and exercising.
