Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?

Our gastrointestinal health has a huge impact on our quality of life. The spectrum of diseases found in gastroenterology and hepatology are rewarding to care for because many of the disease processes are treatable and allow the care team to have a huge impact on patient’s lives. The combination of clinical work mixed in with procedural work also keeps the job different and engaging from day to day.

Do you have a specialty of interest in Gastroenterology?

In addition to gastroenterology, I am also board certified in transplant hepatology, so I spend about 50% of my time working with liver disease patients and am intricately involved with the Intermountain Medical Center Liver Transplant program. While I certainly enjoy the challenge of caring for liver patients, I also continue to enjoy general gastroenterology.

What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?

Traveling with my family is my favorite pastime. I also enjoy good food and exercise. I am a proud Utahan and enjoy the mountains and deserts of Utah. I am an avid skier and hiker and also dabble in paddle boarding and snow shoeing. At times in my life, I have tried to figure out the game of golf.
