About Josh George, M.D.
Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
I chose Gastroenterology due to its diverse challenges and organ systems. As each patient is unique and there are a variety of diseases in Gastroenterology, I am constantly intrigued by the human body and how it functions. From the UGI tract, to the liver, pancreas and lower intestines, each day offers new and interesting cases which constantly challenges and excites the mind. It offers the opportunity to develop close relationships with patients in taking care of chronic conditions, but also has several procedures which can alleviate pain and discomfort in the acute setting as well. I pursued advanced endoscopic procedures such as Endoscopic Ultrasound, ERCP and Endoscopic Mucosal Resection to also be able to help in the care and treatment of patients with cancer.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
Having done an advanced endoscopy year while at Duke University, I specialize in pancreatic and hepatobiliary disorders. In addition, I perform advanced procedures such as Endoscopic Mucosal Resection, ERCP with SpyGlass as well as ERCP with laser lithotripsy. I also perform advanced stenting cases of the esophagus, colon, pancreas and bile duct system. I also enjoy doing general Gastroenterology such as colon cancer screening, Barrett’s treatment and IBD.
