What is the Orbera Managed Weight Loss System?
The Orbera Intragastric Balloon is a weight loss aid for adults who have trouble losing weight with diet and exercise alone and who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 – 40. Please note that Orbera™ is only offered in our Baton Rouge, LA, locations and some of our Houston-area locations.
The Orbera Weight Loss System is a safe and effective nonsurgical weight loss system designed to provide effective, motivating results. The two-part program is FDA cleared and designed to achieve long-term weight loss by slowing the digestion of food and encouraging healthy portion control. On average, Orbera patients lose over three times more weight than with diet and exercise alone. For more information or to see if Orbera Managed Weight Loss is available in your area, please contact GI Alliance.
What can I expect from the Orbera Weight Loss System?
With the Orbera Weight Loss System, you can expect the weight to come off rapidly within the first three months of the program. The procedure, coupled with the nutritional program, provides you with the structure and support to be successful in achieving your weight loss goals. The adjustments to eating habits and lifestyle choices will greatly influence the results of the program.
The GI Alliance specialists who offer this service are dedicated to providing not only the medical expertise for the procedure but also the support and encouragement needed to be successful through every step of the program.
How is the Orbera balloon placed and removed?
This nonsurgical weight loss procedure is performed by board-certified gastroenterologists, highly skilled in endoscopy procedures and protocols. While under a mild sedative, the thin and deflated Orbera balloon is placed into your stomach and then filled with saline until it’s about the size of a grapefruit. The procedure typically takes about 20 – 30 minutes — so you can go home the same day as the procedure.
At six months, the balloon is removed in the same way it was placed. Through a non-surgical procedure conducted under a mild sedative, it is deflated first and then removed.
