Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?
I find the field of gastroenterology very diverse with challenging yet fascinating disorders that patients present us with. During medical school training, I found this field encompassed diseases of multiple organs, including the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, small intestine, and colon to name a few. I realized by specializing in this field, I could help the most number of patients. The fact that I could not only treat patients with medication, but also procedures (such as the endoscopy) to fix problems was also enticing to me.
Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?
I truly like all aspects of GI. I love performing colonoscopies since this is the one preventative test that has been shown to save lives. I spent two years of research training in upper gastrointestinal motility disorders, and I developed an interest in swallowing and acid reflux disorders. I had an additional year of focused, subspecialty training in interventional/therapeutic endoscopy which deals with the management of complex intestinal, colonic, pancreatic of biliary diseases — both cancerous and non-cancerous.

I hold board certifications in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology. I also hold a certification for advanced training in Therapeutic Endoscopy (ERCP/EUS).
What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?
I have two boys, a daughter and a wife. We enjoy traveling together whenever time permits. We like skiing together as a family. I try to keep up with the Houston Rockets and Green Bay Packers.

I had a problem. After going to 2 other doctors that did not find the reason for bleeding he was able to find and treat the problem.

Dr. Surapaneni was originally not my doctor but did an endoscopic ultrasound and listened to my symptoms. After almost 7 months of being sick he ran one more test and found the problem. After my consultation with him, he sent me to a surgeon and a week later I had my surgery and I was no longer sick. He was truly a Godsend. His PA Madison is also amazing.

Have been under Dr S care since 2021. I absolutely love his conservative approach to care. Just because you have insurance and need a procedure, he’s tried less invasive options first then moved towards scheduling a procedure. Yes he could have just gone straight to procedure and billed ins, but by his conservative approach, I was able to lessen the degree of what he needed to do.

The staff was very friendly!! They made me feel very comfortable. Not to mention the procedure went as smooth as silk!! I was very satisfied. As a matter of fact I was referred to Dr. Sri thru my best friend. And she was right!! An awesome experience....I would definitely refer anyone I know to come to Dr. Sri for their colonoscopy...Awesome!!
